Watching the Watchmen?

Can it be possible? Surely not.

WASHINGTON -- A federal judge dismissed the corruption conviction of former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens on Tuesday and took the rare and serious step of opening a criminal investigation into prosecutors who mishandled the case.

"In nearly 25 years on the bench, I've never seen anything approaching the mishandling and misconduct that I've seen in this case," (emphasis added) U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan said..."

I have to say that in my nearly 48 years on this earth, I have never seen anyone in the U.S. court system actually be held accountable in the long term for this kind of malfeasance. But the Good Book says that with God all things are possible.

Later on in the article it quotes another attorney involved with the case as saying:
"How could they do this? How could they abandon their responsibilities?"
Of all the ingenuous bullshit.

How could they do this? They are federal prosecutors, that's how they could do this. What do they care for truth or justice? They are in it to win, to rack up as impressive a score of convictions as they possibly can. And that's ALL they care about. If they gave a rat's ass about wrongfully convicting the innocent, as sure as hell is hot they wouldn't be working for the government.
